Design Tip: Never Use Black

Excellent article by Ian Storm Taylor.

“…we see dark things and assume they are black things. When, in reality, it’s very hard to find something that is pure black. Roads aren’t black. Your office chair isn’t black. The sidebar in Sparrow isn’t black. Words on web pages aren’t black.”

Design Tip: Never Use Black by Ian Storm Talyor

It’s the very reason the blacks on this site, aren’t really black at all.

Maybe same rule applies to white

I definitely think the same rule applies to whites. Too many sites these days use pure white on pure black and in doing so create designs conducive to eye strain.

Excellent article. I’m totally agree with this idea (never use real black). However, I must admit that, sometimes, I find that real black really embellish a Website (see the Noun Project, for example)!
You also need a good device to see the deep black.
